A friend of mine the other day saw me giving some money to another friend who was in dire need. My friend later asked me, why did i give money especially now that i am in the stage of looking for another opportunity or job? You should be saving your money for you and your son who is also looking for a job. This is no time to be generous, he said. You should focus on yourself and your son, since its just the 2 of you left.
I told him that my other friend needed the money more right this moment, i still have enough to last me for a few more weeks. If people start thinking more of themselves than those who really are in need, then what becomes of us. We are unique in a way because we know compassion and we have charity in our hearts. If you take those away then we start losing our humanity.
I also told him, I remember a favorite song of mine when people come and ask your help. I always tell myself.." he aint heavy, he's my brother."
